AEROSIL® 200 is a hydrophilic smoked silica with a specific surface area of 200 m²/g. It is a very volatile ultrafine powder that is added to the epoxy resin, polyester, polyurethane or other fluids in a gradual way until the desired viscosity is obtained.
The adhesion of a small amount of AEROSIL to the epoxy resin significantly increases the thixotropic properties of the resin, converting it into a gelcoat that allows it to adhere to the sides of the molds.
When mixing AEROSIL with a resin, it must be mixed significantly, being able to use a mechanical mixer to facilitate the work.
To achieve a gelcoat consistency 2-3% by weight of AEROSIL will be added to the resin. If what you want to achieve is a thixotropic resin it will be sufficient around 1% of weight and to obtain a thick paste, approximately 100% volume of AEROSIL will be added.
When adding AEROSIL to transparent resins, it must be taken into account that the resin will lose clarity. To achieve different consistencies and viscosities, it is enough to add more or less silica powder.
It is possible to add glass microspheres to the resin with AEROSIL.
Whenever you work with hydrophilic smoked silica you should wear a mask and gloves since the powder is very fine and volatile.
Store the product in closed containers and in a dry place.
