Composites for construction

Composites (formed by combining two or more different materials, which are combined to achieve superior properties) offer great advantages for construction with respect to conventional materials.

With respect to carbon fibers, the main advantage compared to steel is a great reduction in the weight of the structure itself, with more resistance to traction and without presenting corrosion, which makes it ideal for use as structural reinforcement, as For example:

  • In beams, on lower faces to increase their resistance to bending, or on lateral faces for their resistance to cutting.

  • In walls, to improve their resistance to bending and shear.

  • In supports, being able to increase their mechanical properties without a great variety of section

  • In slabs, especially in lower faces thereof.

In addition, as an economical alternative, we have fiberglass reinforcements, which present a very interesting quality-price ratio.

The main advantages of composites over conventional materials are, among others:

corrosion resistance

  • High mechanical resistance

  • They offer new aesthetic possibilities

  • Low density

  • Design flexibility

  • Durability

  • Dimensional stability (they maintain their shape and functionality even under severe mechanical and environmental stresses)

  • Dielectric behavior

  • Some are transparent to electromagnetic waves

  • High service temperature.
